Family/Engagement Session - Tempe, Arizona

We shot this session in record time
We were racing against rain clouds and we won
(though we did get drenched on the way out)
I was so happy to do these pics for Steve, Sarah
and their handsome little guy
Can't wait until their wedding this fall

Thank you Steve & Sarah!

Photos printed on wood, from Woodsnap!

OMG! I love these!
Photographs printed on wood -
I want one.
I need one!
They're made by Woodsnap
I love how the wood grain looks
with these images - so fun!

You can even do your own art work - neat!

The only question I have now is...
which image will I be printing?!

How to become a photographer

So you have decided that you want to become a photographer.
Now what? How do you get to a place where
you can do what you love and get paid to do it?
Everyone has a different path
and I learned a lot while finding mine.
I didn't go to school for this and hit some
bumps here and there but I am finally
doing what I love full-time and earning a living doing it.
Here are some tips that I learned along the way...

Pachuco Style

I spent most of the rainy day weekend editing
But during a midday break I left the house to get some fresh air
Dropped off some books at the library
and picked up some new ones
It's like a treasure hunt for me
when finding new reading material
And this time I found a nice little gem
I was digging thru the stacks and one book, small and buried,
stuck out:

A photography/poetry book

I flipped it open and my eyes landed on thick, black eyeliner -
chola style
Yes!
I brought it home

I loved the pictures in the book (photography by Jose Galvez)

Some of the pics were taken in Tucson, AZ
at about the time I was 17 or 18 yrs old
I can relate to a lot of the images

I don't really like poetry but with lines like:

"All the vatos - loving their menudo"

I couldn't help liking the poem in the book (Luis Alberto Urrea)

Not sure how it is that I had never heard of this
book, but I'm glad I found it.

Family session - Blood & Bond

Some families
are made up of different fragments
all from unique places & spaces
but like a wonderful little puzzle
with pieces that fit together perfectly :)

Sweet sisters

Ravishing in Red!
Absolutely loved this session
This thread is actually part 1 of a 3 family shoot
I so appreciate that these siblings get together
year after year
for photos from the little crown

So blessed!

I had such a blast photographing this session
a U.S. Marine family with kids so sweet
I could have taken pictures for days if they would have let me!
here's just a few teasers
Precious
Sending a BIG thanks to the Fehr Family
who stopped in to meet me in Tempe
while traveling from California to Arizona
So honored that you picked
the little crown
for your family pictures
